The HSLA, or high strength low alloy grades of steel are specifically optimized for their strength-to-weight properties. While still a carbon steel, trace elements are added to enhance material properties. As a result, HSLA 80 offers high strength and good bendability, with up to 20-30% less weight than would be required with the equivalent strength in carbon steel, and provides excellent weldability. Classified according to its mechanical properties instead of its chemistry, HSLA-80 is formulated to offer structural efficiencies to take maximum advantage of its increased performance capabilities. HSLA 80 steel is used for premium steel fabrication projects, and wherever lighter weight and optimized performance are desirable such as cars, trucks, trailers, cranes, excavating equipment, roller coasters, agricultural machinery, buildings, bridges, and many types of components for the rail industries. Wherever optimized structural performance is required, HSLA is among the top choices for steel.
Metals USA offers a full selection of HSLA steel, including HSLA-65, HSLA-80, and HSLA-100.
