The quality of steel for the national shipbuilding industry is overseen by the ABS, or the American Bureau of Shipping. ABS certified material is approved for the shipbuilding industry, and Metals USA’s vast inventory of steel includes a full selection of AH36, EH36, and DH36 shipbuilding steel in the most widely used formats.
AH36 is designed to resist the harsh saline conditions of marine environments, and micro-alloying technology is employed to enhance performance. Elements such as Nb, V, Ti, and other alloying metals, combined with a controlled rolling process, refines the grain and improves the toughness. As one of the highest performance steels produced in the world, the H series of shipbuilding steels is optimized for almost all mechanical properties. AH36 is employed almost exclusively for shipbuilding, marine equipment, offshore oil drilling platforms, and other marine applications.
